Roughwork Get early access
Maths practice for iPad and iPhone

Learn the work, not just the answer.

Write your solution by hand. Roughwork finds the step where it went wrong, asks the question that helps you fix it, and turns the mistake into practice until it holds.

In private testing. One email when it opens, nothing else.
Your working
Solve 3x − (2x − 5) = 4.
1 3x − (2x − 5) = 4
2 3x − 2x − 5 = 4
3 x − 5 = 4
4 x = 9
Line 2. The minus in front of the bracket reaches the 5 too. What is −(−5)?
Illustration of the feedback format: the first wrong step, marked on your own page, and a question instead of the answer.
How it works

Your working tells Roughwork what you need.

An answer key says you got it wrong. It can't say where. Roughwork follows the steps you wrote and starts from the first one that broke.

1Write Work the problem by hand: Apple Pencil on iPad, or paper and a photo on iPhone.
2Check Roughwork reads every line of your working, not just the answer at the bottom.
3Correct It marks the first step that went wrong and asks a question that points at it. You make the fix.
4Practise The mistake turns into a few problems that test the same idea, scheduled until it holds.

Hints before answers

Enough help to move. Never the thinking done for you.

When a step goes wrong, Roughwork names what to check, in plain words. The worked solution is there if you ask for it, and the app keeps track of when you did.

  • →A verdict and the step where it went wrong
  • →A hint that points, never one that solves
  • →A tutor to ask about any problem, in your own words
Mastery

Learn it. Recall it. Keep it.

Every skill has four steps, and one honest word for where you are. A skill only moves when your work still holds up after a gap, so when it moves you can trust it.

Not startedYou haven't tried it yet.
With the methodYou can do it with the worked method in front of you.
On your ownYou can do it with no notes and no hints.
